Pinewood Derby Rules 2009
Pinewood Derby and Raingutter Regatta on Saturday, Jan. 11th
Pack 922 Pinewood Derby and Raingutter Regatta will be held at the Soleado MPR.
The event times are:
- 12:00 to 12:45 pm - Check-in
- 12:45 pm - Check-in deadline
- 1:00 to 3:30 pm - Racing
All awards will be presented at the Blue and Gold Dinner.
Pinewood Derby Rules
- Width: Maximum of 2 ¾ inches (including the wheels)
- Length: Maximum of 7 inches
- Width between wheels: 1 ¾ inches
- Bottom clearance between car and track: 3/8 inch
- Weight: Not over 5.00 ounces
- The car entry must have been built for this year's race.
- Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
- Only official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby wheels and
axles are permitted.
- The car shall not ride on springs.
- Only dry lubricant is permitted.
- Details, such as steering wheel and driver are permissible as long
as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width and weight
specifications.
- The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices. No
auxiliary form of propulsion is allowed including motors, rubber
bands, rockets or magnetic devices.
- No loose materials (weights, characters or trim) are permitted.
Fasten all securely.
- Do not alter the wheel shape or profile. You may eliminate burrs
and molding marks.
- Each car must past inspection
- Once inspected and accepted the car must be turned into the racing
officials and may not be altered in any way (including adding lubricant
to the wheels between runs).
- If a car is damaged in the race, the car may be repaired as long
as it is ready to race again within 5 minutes.
Numbering of Your Cars
Please do not number your car. We will supply a number when you arrive.
Running the Race
- The preliminary races will be by Den
- Each car will race 4 times, each time with different competitors
and on a different track.
- The cars will be timed. The combined time of four runs will be
used to determine the final placement.
- The Den winners will be the three fastest cars based on their
four runs in order of first, second, and third and will advance to the finals
- In the finals, all of the car's prior times will be erased.
- Each finalist car will race 4 times, each time with different
competitors and on a different track
- The Pack winners will be the three fastest cars based on
their four runs in order of first, second, and third.
